Margaret Atwood

Canada, 1939

Already during her lifetime, Margaret Atwood has become an international writer of great acclaim. She has published over 50 books: novels, poetry, children books and non-fiction. Her focus is on male-female relationships, the identity of Canada and human rights. Among her most popular works are The Handmaid’s Tale (1983, film adaptation by Volker Schlöndorff), The Blind Assassin (2000) and The Year of the Flood (2009). In Payback: Debt and the Shadow Side of Wealth (2008) she explores the financial, psychological, theological, literary and ecological side of debt. Her most recent book is In Other Worlds: SF and the Human Imagination (2011).
