 is schrijver, historicus, televisiemaker en politicus.Tussen 2008 en 2011 was hij lid van het Canadese parlement en leider van de Liberale Partij. Ignatieff studeerde in Toronto en Harvard en doceerde in Cambridge, Oxford, Berkeley en Londen. Vanaf 2000 was hij gedurende vijf jaar directeur van The Carr Center for Human Rights Policy aan Harvard University, waarna hij werd benoemd tot hoogleraar Mensenrechten aan de Universiteit van Toronto. Als publicist verwierf Ignatieff wereldfaam met zijn beschouwingen over de rol van nationalisme, etnisch bewustzijn en mensenrechten in internationale conflicten. Hij verzorgde in 1996 de openingslezing op de eerste Nexus-conferentie en hield in 2000 de Nexus-lezing (gepubliceerd in Nexus 28). Essays van zijn hand verschenen in Nexus 15, 21 en 50.
