If universities continue to ignore these questions, then, in his view, they are left to priests, rabbis and family. Philosophy, literature and other humanities can offer a counterbalance. “As a teacher, I can put the large questions before the students, explore them with some of the great answers that other human beings have given them. I can help the students map the landscape, so that they are able to navigate on their own.”
