is a poet, essayist, philosopher, translator, art historian and linguist. His first book, Du mouvement et de l’immobilité de Douve, was published in 1953. He was invited to teach at various universities in France, Switzerland and the United States. In 1983 he accepted the chair of the comparative study of poetry at the Collège de France, where he is honourary professor since 1993. Bonnefoy was awarded several times in different countries (Italy, Japan, United States). Amoung many other things, he published Dans le leurre du seuil (1975), Alberto Giacometti, biographie d’une oeuvre (1991), Théâtre et poésie: Shakespeare et Yeats (1998), Keats et Leopardi (2000), Shakespeare & the French Poet (2004), L'Imaginaire métaphysique (2006) en La Poésie à voix haute (2007).
