His fields of interest cover metaphysics, ethics, political philosophy, aesthetics, and history of philosophy. His main works are: Wahrheit und Geschichte (1984), Die Krise der Gegenwart und die Verantwortung der Philosophie (1990), Hegels System (1987), Moral und Politik (1997), Woody Allen (2001) and Der philosophische Dialog (2006). His correspondence with a girl, Das Cafe der toten Philosophen, was translated into thirteen languages, including Dutch.
