is currently Associate Professor of English and Cultural Studies at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario. She is the author, with Henry A. Giroux, of Take Back Higher Education: Race, Youth and the Crisis of Democracy in the Post-Civil Rights Era (2004), and, with Jeffrey T. Nealon, The Theory Toolbox: Critical Concepts for the Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences (2003). She has published numerous articles on the politics of the university, the history of English studies, critical pedagogy and contemporary race theory, and is charged with the day-to-day running of the Review of Education, Pedagogy, and Cultural Studies. Last year she contributed to a special edition of the journal College Literature, entitled ‘The Assault on Higher Education’.
