![]() Russell Sherman is an ingenious virtuoso and an insightful master pianist. The New York Times describes him as ‘quite simply one of the best pianists in this or any other country.’ Mr. Sherman made his solo debut at the age of fifteen and his orchestral debut with the New York Philharmonic under Leonard Bernstein. Since then he has performed with major orchestras in major cities throughout the world. As a prolific recording artist, he is the first American pianist to have recorded all of the sonatas and concertos of Beethoven and his recording of the Beethoven sonatas has been called ‘a set for the ages.’ Sherman is an eloquent communicator both on and off the concert stage. Described by some as a true Renaissance man, Sherman published the book of essays Piano Pieces in 1996, as a monumental reflection on his experience as a pianist and teacher. Sherman studied with Eduard Steuermann and graduated from Columbia University with a degree in the humanities. Sherman has been teaching at the New England Conservatory as a Distinguished Artist-in- Residence and continues to garner accolades from critics and audiences alike for his imagination and poetry.
