Maurizio Viroli

is Professor of Politics at Princeton University. He has taught at the Cambridge University, Georgetown (Washington dc ), and the Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa. He has got a phd in Social and Political Sciences at the European University Institute in Florence. He is the author of Jean Jacques Rousseau and the Well-Ordered Society (1988), From Politics to Reason of State. The Acquisition and Transformation of the Language of Politics (1250 1600) (1992), For Love of Country: An Essay on Patriotism and Nationalism (1995), Machiavelli (1998), Niccolò’s Smile (2000), Republicanism (2002), and, with Norberto Bobbio, The Idea of the Republic (2003). With Gisela Bock and Quentin Skinner he is the editor of Machiavelli and Republicanism (1990). He writes for La Stampa.
