is Professor of Philosophy at Columbia University in the United States. She is specialised in the philosophy of music, aesthetics, cultural history and the history of philosophy. Amongst other work she has written The Imaginary Museum of Musical Works (1992) and The Quest for Voice. Music, Politics, and the Limits of Philosophy (1997). In 1996-1997, Goehr gave the Bloch lectures at the University of California, Berkeley.
