is a world-renowned Hellenist.She was the first woman to be given a chair in the Collège de France, and she is also a member of the Académie Française. She has translated Thucydides into French and published Pourquoi la Grèce?, Ecrits sur l'enseignement and Le trésor des savoirs oubliés. For the last few years she has been almost totally blind, but she continues to publish books and champion the teaching of classical languages.
