![]() is a literary theorist and the author of novels, short stories and plays. He is the son of Sephardic, Egyptian-Jewish parents. From 1945 to 1956 he lived in Egypt, before moving to England. After his graduation at Oxford University he taught English at the School of European Studies at the University of Sussex. In 1998, he left a Position as Professor of English to dedicate himself wholly to writing. Josipovici aroused general admiration with his books The Book of God (1988), On Trust. Art and the Temptation of Suspicion (1999), Touch (1996) and A Life (2001), in memory of his mother. Most recently, his novel Everything Passes (2006) and the essay collection The Singer on the Shore: Essays 1991-2004 (2006) appeared. Josipovici, who previously wrote for Nexus 39, 42 and 44, goes into ‘The Creative Impulse in the Age of Scepticism’ in his essay in Nexus 50. |
