is one of Europe’s most prominent philosophers. After having taken his degree in philosophy in Madrid, he was imprisoned for political reasons and forced to resign as an Assistant Professor. In 1975, he finished his Ph.D. with a thesis on Emil Cioran, and in 1980 he accepted a Chair in Ethics at the university of San Sebastian. He returned to Madrid in 1993, where he still teaches at the Universidad Complutense. He has written more than fifty books, on philosophical, political and educational topics, but several novels and collections of essays as well. His works have been translates into more than twenty-five languages. In 1982, Savater receives the prestigious Spanish Premio Nacional de Literatura.
