![]() pseudonym of Vittoria Guerrini, was an independent and brilliant thinker. Besides poetry and translations (of, among others, Marianne Moore, John Donne, Emily Dickinson, and Virginia Woolf), she published a small but unequalled oeuvre of lucid essays which balances poetry, art, philosophy, and religion. Each of these essays testifies to her extraordinary wisdom, as can be seen in Fiaba e mistero (1962) or Il flauto e il tappeto (1971). In 1987, Milanese publishing house Adelphi broke the silence that surrounded Campo’s works from before her death by publishing the book of essays Gli imperdonabili, from which the essay ‘The flute and the Tapestry’ is taken, which originally appeared in the 1971 book of the same name. Nexus first introduced Campo to a Dutch audience, by publishing ‘The Unforgivables’ in Nexus 16 (1996), which was preceded by an introductory essay by Rob Riemen, and by publishing the essay ‘A doctor’ in Nexus 25 (1999).
