is a graduate student in Science, Technology, and Society at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). She is also an assistant professor at the School of Journalism of the University of British Columbia in Canada. Before embarking on an academic career, she was a journalist for years, working for a number of American and Canadian television and radio stations. She also made an independent film, Traditional Renaissance (1995), on her aboriginal background. Callison's research is focused particularly on the role of new media in the reporting on and reaction to environmental issues. [041209]
