Een politiek humanisme voor de 21ste eeuw
Quotation:
‘The popularization of high culture has become the justification of culture itself. If it is good, if it is noble, it must be shared, and shared as widely as possible. Of course the democratization of high humanist culture is problematic in a capitalist civilization. [...] Yet it makes no sense to suppose that we would have a more elevated and humanist public culture if we gave up trying to broaden access to our heritage. Democratic access to humanist culture seems a good thing in itself, even if we cannot be sure to what extent access elevates the spirit.’
